The foldable phone market is maturing, and consumer expectations are changing along with it. The first generation showed that one device can combine the compactness of a smartphone with the functionality of a tablet, but today users expect more – not only a unique form factor but also smartphone reliability and durability comparable to traditional flagships.
It is precisely these expectations that the latest Samsung technological innovations are focused on. The company has introduced a new screen construction called “Flex Titanium,” which combines advanced materials and new engineering solutions to make foldable devices stronger, thinner, and offer an even more seamless visual experience.
These innovations will debut in the new generation of Galaxy foldable devices, which will be presented at the Galaxy Unpacked event on July 22.
Focus on user benefits
According to Eglė Tamelytė, Head of Communications at Samsung Electronics Baltics in Lithuania, innovative technological solutions should be noticeable not only in the specifications table but also felt in everyday device use.
“Today’s users expect technology to adapt to their lifestyle, not the other way around. When creating the new generation of foldable devices, we paid a lot of attention to the details that have the greatest impact on daily life – device durability, longevity, and ease of use,” says E. Tamelytė.
According to her, in recent years Samsung has consistently invested in improving foldable screen technologies – from new materials to structural solutions that allow combining thin design, strength, and flexibility in one device.
Titanium – not only in aviation or space
One of the most important elements of the new technology is titanium. Due to its exceptional strength, this material has long been used in aviation and the space industry, but applying it to an extremely thin, flexible screen construction is a much more complex task. For this, the technology company created a titanium alloy film with a thickness of only about one-third of the average human hair.
Along with it, a special titanium plate is used, providing additional stability to the screen. Both components help the construction better withstand impacts and constant folding, maintaining device thinness and reducing the visibility of fold marks.
“The foldable phone category has now reached a more mature stage. While previously users were most amazed by the very principle of the foldable screen, now more attention is paid to how the device retains its properties after several years of use. Therefore, the most important changes today happen where they are not immediately visible – in materials, construction, and solutions that determine device longevity,” notes E. Tamelytė.
According to her, these solutions reflect a broader direction in mobile technology – devices are becoming not only smarter but also better adapted to different people’s needs, work, and leisure habits.
