Fraudsters have scammed millions of euros just this year

More than 1500 pre-trial investigations into fraud have already been initiated in Lithuania this year – about 4% less than in the same period last year. However, the damage suffered by residents remains huge – almost 14 million euros have already been scammed from people, police report.

Head of the Police Communications Department Ramūnas Matonis said that although the total number of registered fraud cases has decreased, there are more cases where residents lose very large sums.

“In 2025, 7.2% fewer criminal acts related to fraud were registered compared to 2024 (…), but more frauds with large damages were registered,” said R. Matonis.

According to him, the past year stands out because residents more often recognize attempts by fraudsters.

“In 2025, the police received 1.5–2 times more reports about fraud and attempted fraud every month, but the majority of reports were about identified fraud where the person was not harmed, did not provide data, and reported to the authorities,” says the police representative.
