The largest part – 157.9 million euros, or 65.70% of all revenues – consisted of data transmission services, the Communications Regulatory Authority (RRT) announced on Tuesday.

RRT Chair Jūratė Šovienė says that an increasing share of the e-communications market growth is driven precisely by data transmission services – over the year they generated almost 90% of the sector’s revenue increase.
“Residents and businesses are increasingly using cloud, video streaming, artificial intelligence, and other data transmission-based services. At the same time, the very use of communication is changing: almost a third of mobile internet data is already transmitted via 5G networks,” J. Šovienė said in a statement.
Mobile internet revenues grew by 8.6% over the year to 111.6 million euros. Meanwhile, retail roaming mobile internet revenues for the quarter reached 2.87 million euros – 8.84% more.

In the second quarter, the total amount of data sent and received over mobile networks reached 584.44 petabytes (PB) – 21.7% more.
The average number of calling minutes per mobile service subscriber decreased to 198.6, or 5.1% – according to RRT, this indicates that traditional voice communication is being rapidly replaced by digital communications.
The number of SIM cards using 5G reached 1.21 million in the quarter – 55.4% more. One 5G service subscriber used on average 54.39 GB of data per month – 14.8% more.
According to RRT experts, the growing demand for 5G is driven by increasing network coverage, a wider selection of 5G-compatible devices, and the increasingly active use of this technology for everyday digital services.
