Internationally certified IBCLC breastfeeding consultant Eglė Gurčinė says that such a decision should not be seen only as a choice between two extremes. Even if a mother has to return to work earlier than she planned, breastfeeding can remain an important part of the baby’s nutrition and closeness.
Breastfeeding is not “all or nothing”
In Lithuania, we have some of the longest maternity and child care leaves compared to other countries. Therefore, the majority of mothers raise their children at home until 1.5, 2, or even 3 years old. However, life circumstances vary – sometimes returning to work happens much earlier.
