The suspected killer committed suicide after the attack.

This is already the second such incident in the country in the past two months. The attack took place at a private Catholic school in the western Mindanao region.

A seventh grader “managed to bring a powerful firearm and a .45 caliber pistol,” the mayor of Zamboanga City, Khymeras Olaso (Chaimeras Olasas), told a local radio station.

“The video shows that he first shot the teacher sitting at the table,” said Kh. Olaso, commenting on the video circulated by local media.

“It seems he missed, then went to another classroom and shot another student, who fell to the ground. It appears that two more people were injured just before he committed suicide,” he said.

The school administration confirmed that a total of two people died.

“The safety of our students is a top priority,” the official statement said.

“We have already contacted parents and guardians to pick up the children, and the school ensured the safety of the remaining people in the town,” the school said.

The video circulated on social media, believed to have been streamed live on Facebook, shows the gun barrel moving down the school corridor like in a first-person shooter game, then aimed at a classroom and fired.

Students in uniforms can be seen screaming and running towards the exit.

The suspect’s Facebook account has already been disabled. School shootings in the Philippines are rare, and the school where this incident occurred conducted an active shooter drill just last month.

In June, three teenagers were killed and 20 others injured in another shooting in central Philippines. Although gun ownership is strictly regulated in this Southeast Asian country, there is a large illegal firearms market.
