„The goal of Netanyahu’s government is to remove Palestine from the common agenda of humanity, taking advantage of chaos and new conflicts in the region,“ said R. T. Erdogan during a joint press conference with his Palestinian counterpart Mahmoud Abbas.
„No matter what they do, they will not succeed. The Palestinian cause will continue to grow in people’s hearts, even though they try to destroy it,“ he said and promised that Turkey will fight for the establishment of the State of Palestine.
R. T. Erdogan, a staunch defender of the Palestinian cause, has repeatedly harshly criticized B. Netanyahu’s government, accusing the Israeli Prime Minister of “genocide” in the Gaza Strip and pursuing expansionist policies in the West Bank, Lebanon, Syria, and elsewhere.
M. Abbas, accompanied by senior Palestinian officials, arrived in Ankara on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, he met with R. T. Erdogan and they discussed events in the region during talks that the Palestinian leader called important and fruitful.

Last month, 90-year-old M. Abbas announced that Palestinian parliamentary elections will be held on November 28, and presidential elections early next year.
If the November elections take place, they will be the first such elections in two decades.
„I hope that the decision to hold parliamentary and presidential elections in Palestine after a long break will bring success (…) (and) encourage the reconciliation process,“ said R. T. Erdogan, referring to the historic rivalry between M. Abbas’s Fatah movement and the Hamas movement ruling the Gaza Strip.
M. Abbas also welcomed the defense pact signed on August 7 by Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan. He stated that it is “extremely important” and expressed hope that it will help strengthen security and stability in the region.
