According to the advisor, the Alliance takes very seriously the warnings that the threat of provocations in the region and elsewhere in Europe has increased in the coming months.

“We have warned, and the Alliance takes this very seriously. If all indicators really showed that the situation is critical, I have no doubt that additional forces and air defense capabilities would be assigned,” D. Matulionis told Žinių radijas on Tuesday.
BNS wrote that leaders of NATO’s eastern flank countries have recently publicly warned that they have intelligence information about Russia preparing to carry out provocations in their countries using kinetic means.
President Gitanas Nausėda said in an interview with BNS last week that critical transport and energy infrastructure in Lithuania could become targets, the protection of which has recently been strengthened.
The presidential advisor stated that provocations can be various – both so-called “false flag” operations, blaming Ukraine for actions, and sabotage acts already observed in Europe in recent years.
“It is important to emphasize that no one here has immunity. This is not only a threat to our region but also a threat to other countries that have very active support ties with Ukraine,” said D. Matulionis.

He denied that Russia could be planning an invasion of any NATO country.
“There is definitely no information about military buildup on our border, so the question of a military invasion is dismissed. The probability here is practically zero,” said the presidential advisor.
D. Matulionis emphasized that Russian attacks are avoided, and services are doing everything “to ensure that such things are not carried out on our territory.”
Moscow’s intentions to stage provocations are linked to Russia’s difficulties on the battlefield in Ukraine and the desire to achieve some quicker victory.
The Kremlin denies accusations of planned attacks and calls them a pretext for militarization directed against Russia.
