“This shows how detached from reality those are who call to weaken support for Ukraine or slow down the modernization of the Polish army.
That is why we are doing everything to ensure that Russian missiles never reach Poland and that no one threatens our security. We will not give in on this issue!” W. Kosiniak-Kamysz declared.
The minister’s comments came after Przemysław Czarnek, the opposition party Law and Justice (PiS) candidate for prime minister in next year’s elections, called for ending aid to Ukraine.
Last Monday, P. Czarnek deviated from his party’s usual position, saying: “We must force the European Union… for now, by any means, to stop financing Ukraine’s military strengthening and reconstruction until Ukraine chooses a path that nurtures human values.”

A divisive story
The statement was prompted by a diplomatic dispute lasting several weeks between Warsaw and Kyiv over historical grievances, which caused the greatest tension in bilateral relations since Russia launched its war of aggression against Ukraine in 2022.
The dispute revolves around differing assessments of the Volhynia massacres – a series of killings during World War II that many in Poland consider an ethnic cleansing of local Polish inhabitants carried out by Ukrainian nationalists. At least 100,000 Poles were brutally killed during the events.
This issue came to the forefront in May when Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky took actions that Warsaw views as glorifying war criminals. The resulting diplomatic dispute only fueled anti-Ukrainian rhetoric on the Polish political right and led to greater social tension.
