“Today, at the meeting of the Nation and Justice Union council, a decision was made that the party branch nominates me (…). If Lithuania and the party are calling, I will obey the party’s position and run for mayor,” the politician said to BNS on Saturday.

In case of success, he said he would renounce the mandate of a Member of the European Parliament won in June 2024.
The politician lost his seat in the Seimas in 2023 due to impeachment, and since then he has been unable to enter parliament for a decade, but according to P. Gražulis, this restriction does not apply to direct mayoral and municipal council elections.
“My main goal is that cursed (Kapčiamiestis military – BNS) training ground. I think it is not needed, that it is a waste of money and there are more minuses than pluses from that training ground,” the MEP explained.
As BNS wrote, Lithuania is establishing a training ground in the Lazdijai district, Kapčiamiestis, by creating a national division and deploying a German brigade in the country. More space is needed for military training.

According to P. Gražulis, the Nation and Justice Union (centrists, nationalists) gathered at the rally in Karklė also decided that the parliamentary member Rimas Jonas Jankūnas, elected as party chairman in March, will run for the mayor of Kaunas.
He entered the Seimas in the autumn on the list of the Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union and worked for a while in the joint faction of the “farmers” and the Christian Families Alliance, but left it.
Meanwhile, in Klaipėda, P. Gražulis’s comrade, former parliamentarian Naglis Puteikis, will compete for the mayor’s seat.
In total, the party confirmed 14 candidates for mayor. The elections will take place in February–March 2027.
