Large amounts of seaweed have been brought near the Palanga pier. Already on Sunday, Palanga municipal workers began digging seaweed into trailers and transporting it to a special waste management site.
The work continued for three mornings in a row. As Gediminas Valujevičius, head of the Palanga Municipal Economy, said, it was impossible to leave the seaweed on the shore: the weather warmed up and the smell could become even more intense.

In Klaipėda, larger accumulations of seaweed formed only in one place – near the northern pier. This spot is favored by surfers because of the wave breaks. The area is maintained by the Klaipėda city municipality.

In Melnragė, seaweed is already being piled up, even collected from the sea.
As Žigintas Narmontas, head of the public institution “Klaipėda Beaches,” said, there was much less seaweed in other places.
“We clean the beaches every morning. There is still some in the water, but very little. There is none at all in Smiltynė,” said Ž. Narmontas.
