“Unexpectedly, too quickly, painfully too quickly, we received the news of the loss of history teacher Daiva. The news that she was ill, that she had hopes of recovery, of overcoming that invincible disease of our age, calmly communicated with us, colleagues, students, believed in the power and catch of positivity, often, very often smiled…,” – shares Trakai Gymnasium on their page with a message filled with sorrow.

As stated in the obituary published here, “Daiva was not only a professional in her subject but also an exceptionally bright, persistent, and positive person.
The teacher worked in archives, touched old manuscripts
and such documents that we see in films, exhibitions, books.
“Trakų žemė” and “Voruta” – employees of Trakai region newspapers, journalists, editors who worked longer, know, believe they could say even more about her journalistic and research activities or historical studies of her region.
And for her, Daiva, that activity suited her, it could be trusted, her articles about old parish schools, old Lithuanian surnames, their
sound, the presence of monasteries, their collapse, excavations, guarded secrets, the passage of time were read not only by her students – current and former – but also by the residents of Trakai city, its surroundings, and municipality.

She lovingly and persistently taught the younger generation to know history, understand
the importance of the past, and appreciate the cultural heritage of their region. She paid special attention to the history of Trakai – was interested in it, researched, wrote historical articles, shared accumulated knowledge with students and the community.”
As reported by the newspaper “Trakų žemė,” Daiva Kerdokaitė-Kazlauskė (1973-2026) was born and raised in Trakai. She studied at the then Trakai Secondary School No. 2 (now – Trakai Vytautas the Great Gymnasium), which she graduated from in 1991. After finishing school, she studied at Vilnius University, obtaining a master’s degree in history and a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1998.
After her studies, she worked at the Vilnius Regional State Archive, and in 2000 she returned to her native Trakai and began working at Trakai Vytautas the Great Gymnasium. She remained loyal to this school until the last day of her life, becoming an inseparable part of its community.
According to Trakai Vytautas the Great Gymnasium, the teacher will be buried in the cemetery of her native Semeliškės village.
