New September 9th heat record: the air heated up more than expected

Based on preliminary data, a new highest air temperature record for September 9 was measured. In Druskininkai, the air heated up to 31.4 °C.

This is one of the highest temperature values ever measured this month. The absolute heat record for September is 35.1 °C (measured on 2015-09-01 in Druskininkai).

The previous September 9 heat record was recorded exactly 7 years ago (2019-09-09) in Kybartai, when the temperature rose to 29.0 °C (i.e. 2.4 degrees lower than today).

This was already the 10th daily highest air temperature record this year. In 2025 there were 23 such records in total, in 2024 – 18, in 2023 – 16, in 2022 – 13, and in 2021 – 6.

During the 2021–2026 period, heat/warmth records in Lithuania are measured 8 times more often than cold records.

In the next 24 hours, an atmospheric front will pass, so Thursday will be much cooler. The highest air temperature will only reach 15–20 degrees Celsius.
