When the news portal Žmonės.lt contacted D. Žeimytė-Bilienė, the journalist revealed more details about the unpleasant situation.
According to her, the threats were not even hidden behind fake profiles, and law enforcement has already taken action.
“The threat was in the form of a comment. Then that comment was deleted, it also touched on my family members. It was written in English, but the writer was Lithuanian, from a real profile – not some bot or troll. At this point, I could no longer remain silent and do nothing. I myself contacted the police and received a notification that an investigation has been initiated under the Criminal Procedure Code. I understand that this is just the initial stage, later I will probably have more information,” the journalist told the portal Žmonės.lt .
The woman notes that this attack reflects not only her personal experience but also a much broader problem relevant to the entire country – a huge societal division and radicalization.
“My situation is more of an illustration and example of the point we are at on this topic and generally in terms of societal discord. If people start throwing serious threats because of some of their beliefs, then it is definitely no longer a normal situation in principle,” she said.

D. Žeimytė-Bilienė emphasizes that her posts on social networks are not intended to offend or belittle anyone. According to her, in the public space, she simply exercises the right to express her position, urging people not to succumb to politicians’ manipulations.
“With my comments, I do not insult anyone, threaten anyone, or mock anyone. I have the right to express my view, and it is not about one side or another, but about the situation in general. It is rather an attempt to stop the flared-up societal polarization, to draw attention to how some topics are politicized so that our minds are not manipulated,” the well-known woman explained her viewpoint.
Although the journalist’s aim is to encourage critical thinking, the threats, according to her, send a very clear signal about the state of the public space: “That is my goal, but such comments basically show that we have already gone to complete extremes.”
