During the military exercises, training was conducted to search for, pursue, and detain hypothetical saboteur and reconnaissance groups allegedly capable of infiltrating through the Russian state border. In addition, they practiced how to block their movement areas and routes.
In one of the videos provided by the Rosgvardiya, security forces officers are seen driving up to a bus, breaking its window, climbing inside, and then, holding a pistol to the temple, escorting the “detainees” out of the bus. In another video, soldiers are recorded firing mortars at targets simulating hypothetical enemy positions.
Back in May, FSB Border Service head Vladimir Kulishov accused Finland and Estonia of allegedly violating agreements regarding the border with Russia and stated that there is supposedly an increase in “provocative actions” from their side.
According to him, Finland is allegedly installing engineering barriers in places not stipulated by the agreement, while Estonia deviates from agreements on the delimitation of water areas.
V. Kulishov added that such initiatives supposedly create conditions for conflict situations and force Russia to prepare for “various event scenarios.”
At the end of June, the authorities of the Murmansk region, bordering Finland and Norway, also announced “activity of foreign landing groups.” Control points were set up on regional roads, and comprehensive truck inspections were introduced using service dogs.
From July 1, Russia closed railway border checkpoints at the border with Finland, Latvia, and Estonia. The reasons for the decision were not specified. In turn, Finland closed all vehicle border crossing points along the border with Russia back in 2023.
