According to the organizers, the event aims to evaluate and award both experienced scythemen and introduce newcomers interested in continuing the scything traditions.

Championship participants will compete in team scything competitions, an amateur event called “From the table to the scythe,” beginners’ competition “Scythe debut,” and a neat scything event.
The best performing participants will compete for the titles of Scytheman of the Year and Scythewoman of the Year.
The event will also feature a scythe school, where experienced masters will present the basic principles of scythe preparation and scything, help choose the proper posture, demonstrate correct movements, and provide the opportunity to try all this practically.
Additionally, participants and spectators will enjoy a concert by the band “Gobšūs Opršūs” and educational activities for the whole family.
The event will conclude with the “Friendly Scythemen’s Swath” – a symbolic joint scything side by side.
The organizers emphasize that scything with a scythe is not only part of cultural heritage but also reminds us of a more attentive human relationship with the landscape and life-filled meadows.
“Properly maintained wet meadows are especially important for rare bird species, including the reed bunting, one of the rarest European songbirds,” the statement says.

The meadows stretching in the Nemunas Delta are breeding grounds for the reed bunting.
