Foreign Minister Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher is the highest-ranking Vatican official visiting this country since the start of Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine.
P.R. Gallagher will hold talks on Tuesday with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
The visit program, scheduled until Thursday, includes meetings with representatives of the Moscow Patriarchate and the local Catholic community.

This visit – the first since November 2021, before the conflict in Ukraine arose – aligns with the Vatican diplomacy tradition emphasizing active neutrality and refusal to sever ties with parties to the conflict.
