On Saturday, a tragic accident was reported in the Anykščiai district, Mažionys village, Troškūnai eldership. As 15min confirmed with the Fire Protection and Rescue Department, a tree toppled by strong wind fell and fatally crushed a man.

According to the Utena County Police, at about 16:07, the body of a man born in 1966 was found lifeless under a fallen tree in a body of water. On Sunday morning, the Police Department reported that a pre-trial investigation was initiated to determine the cause of death.

More details revealed about the death and the injured
On Sunday, more circumstances emerged about the man who died during the storm in the Anykščiai district. According to a representative of the Fire Protection and Rescue Department, the man was fishing on the shore of a body of water when a tree fell on him and pushed him into the water.
“As the tree fell, it submerged him into the body of water,” said the firefighter representative. The man was freed, but could not be saved – death was confirmed. The representative could not specify whether the body of water where the accident occurred is private or public.

Four more people were injured during the storm. In a park in Kaunas, a tree fell on a woman. In the Kėdainiai district, a tree fell on a car and trapped two people inside – rescuers freed them.
Another incident was recorded in the Zarasai district. A person riding a bicycle collided with a tree fallen on the road and was unconscious for a while. Later, he regained consciousness and left the scene.
According to firefighters, only one of these incidents ended in death, and the four injured people did not suffer serious injuries.
