Minister of Culture: Research on the search for the remains of Vytautas the Great in the Cathedral will begin in early autumn

“The research is planned to start this early autumn. We are talking about minimally invasive studies with the idea of taking samples and trying to determine whether the remains of Vytautas the Great might possibly be in that place,” L. Alsys told journalists in Trakai on Friday.

According to him, during an earlier visit to Ukraine, he spoke with local authorities about the possibility of opening crypts in the Pechersk Lavra in Kyiv, from which Gediminid (Olelkaitis) DNA samples would be taken to determine whether the remains possibly in Vilnius Cathedral are those of Vytautas the Great.
