“I think it will be necessary to thoroughly and legally familiarize myself with the situation, I will want to know not just small details. I would personally support such an initiative,” the Prime Minister told journalists at the Presidential Palace on Tuesday.
As BNS wrote, on Tuesday the Vilnius District Prosecutor’s Office announced that it had handed over a case to the court in which a priest who worked in the Vilnius Archdiocese is accused of molesting minors, sexual assault of a minor and a young child, satisfying sexual desire by violating the minor’s freedom and inviolability of sexual self-determination for payment, child exploitation for pornography, possession of pornographic material depicting a child, and involving a child in drunkenness.
According to law enforcement data, these crimes were committed from 2002 until June 2025, affecting 11 individuals.
Both the prosecutor’s office and representatives of the Vilnius Archdiocese refused to disclose the name of the clergyman accused of these crimes, claiming that he is not a public figure.

M. Sinkevičius predicted that this case could prompt initiatives to change laws.
“Such a case is painful, unpleasant, and it is even hard to believe that such cases still occur in modern Lithuania. Regarding registers, regarding regulation, how criminals in such crimes could be identified, their identities revealed, I think the parliament will definitely consider it and probably there will be various legal initiatives in the autumn,” he said.
BNS wrote that in 2024 the Seimas, after submission, approved an amendment to create a register of suspects, accused, and convicted persons for criminal acts against sexual self-determination and inviolability committed against children.
According to the project, the register would be composed of a limited-use database containing data of these persons, which would be provided to courts, law enforcement agencies, and other institutions as provided by law, and a public database containing data of those convicted of criminal acts, which would be published on a website for public viewing.

However, in March last year, the Government issued a negative opinion on this project.
