As reported by the Government, the meeting highlighted the excellent bilateral relations between Lithuania and Latvia, close cooperation in all formats – the European Union, NATO, the Northern and Baltic Eight, the Baltic Council of Ministers.

“Lithuania and Latvia share a common responsibility for the security and prosperity of the region, a coinciding assessment of threats and challenges, and an understanding that together we are stronger. My Government sees the strategic partnership of the Baltic states as extremely important and I have no doubt that it will only strengthen,” M. Sinkevičius is quoted as saying in the statement.
The meeting emphasized the need to further strengthen NATO’s eastern flank security and resilience against both conventional and hybrid threats.
According to the Government, Lithuania and Latvia, being among the leaders in the entire Alliance in defense spending, set an exemplary leadership example in this area.
The meeting also highlighted the partnership in developing defense industry capabilities, especially in the field of drones and anti-drone measures, and the importance of further support to Ukraine.

The “Rail Baltica” and “Via Baltica” projects, which are particularly important for regional transport, military mobility, and the economy, also remain among the priorities of both countries, the Government says.
The President of Latvia welcomed the Prime Minister who took office this week and his Cabinet and wished them success in their work.
As BNS wrote, the new Government held its first meeting on Wednesday after the ministers took their oaths in the Seimas on Tuesday.
The new Cabinet was formed after a reshuffle of the ruling coalition. The current majority, consisting of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party, the Democrats “For Lithuania,” and the Lithuanian Farmers, Greens and Christian Democrats factions, holds 75 votes in the Seimas.
