According to a journalist from the state broadcaster ERT who was at the scene, the aircraft, shortly after takeoff, suddenly lost altitude and crashed in front of thousands of spectators at the annual “Athens Aviation Week” event.
After the aircraft fell, an explosion was heard.
A firefighting helicopter was dispatched to the scene to extinguish the fire, ERT reported.
Defense Minister Nikos Dendias canceled his trip to the Thessaloniki International Fair to visit the accident site.
