According to portal sources, the mentioned officer is currently on sick leave.
Vilnius County Pre-trial Investigation Institutions Trade Union Chairman Vitalijus Jagminas also confirmed to the portal that one of the officers is on sick leave.

Also, according to portal sources, the head of the State Border Guard Service (VSAT), Rustam Liubajevas, allegedly gave instructions to border officers on what they should say about the incident.
When BNS contacted VSAT, it stated that it could not comment on the circumstances of the incident because pre-trial investigations are being conducted.
The first to report the incident last week was the portal “Delfi”. According to its data, in the Lazdijai district, in the territory of the Kapčiamiestis border post, after a tunnel was detected being dug under the state border, four border guards set up an ambush. The border guards detained several migrants and handcuffed them, but during the detention about 20 foreigners attacked the officers.
The officers had to flee, while the illegal migrants, including those handcuffed, escaped to Belarus. VSAT announced the discovery of the tunnel and the escaped migrants but remained silent about the attack on the officers.

R. Liubajevas has repeatedly denied claims that the officers could have been attacked; according to him, VSAT failed to establish such a fact.
Moreover, last week the prosecutor’s office expanded and reclassified the pre-trial investigation started on July 27 regarding the illegal crossing of the state border in the territory of the Kapčiamiestis border post of the Varėna border unit.
The investigation was also expanded to clarify initial data and verify publicly available information about the circumstances related to the actions of responsible VSAT officers who organized and carried out the state border monitoring, control, and protection functions, and to objectively and impartially assess the established facts.
