“We are talking to the Latvian side. I hope that they will express a need not only for physical capabilities, border guards on site, (…) they also lack thermal imagers and night vision devices. Perhaps (support – BNS) not on a donation basis, but it could be lent to strengthen their capabilities. There are many such options, and I think this is already a conversation between our border management and their border management about what the needs are,” the minister told reporters on Thursday.

“It is not a question for politicians what kind of assistance should be provided, because sometimes politicians can take very large initiatives, miss with decisions, and that assistance will simply be an open niche at our borders and zero benefit to Latvia in this case,” he added.
