From now on, two forms are available on the LNDT website, which can be filled out by anyone with collaboration proposals for the theater – both independent artists and non-governmental sector organizations.

To promote closer cooperation and create opportunities for artists from different fields to get acquainted, LNDT started the idea presentation platform “Sails” this June. In the individual artist presentation session, 31 artists participated, in the idea presentation session held on the second day, participants heard about 26 specific creative projects, and 12 already developed works were presented in the sketch part.
At that time, several “Sails” participants said that there are very few places and opportunities for artists to communicate and collaborate. “In Lithuania, there is a great lack of platforms for performing arts professionals that encourage sector cooperation by connecting the entire ecosystem: producers, creators, cultural operators,” said Darius Vizbaras, head of “Kosmos Theatre”.
“As a young director, this project was especially important to me because it gave the Lithuanian theater community the opportunity to see me, get to know me as an artist and director, and also allowed me to show my creative style and abilities. Thanks to ‘Sails,’ I managed to establish new contacts with other creators and like-minded people. In my eyes, this aspect was the most valuable because such experiences grow and strengthen the theater community, not fragmented, but united, open, and supportive,” said Paulius Juška, who recently graduated from directing studies at LMTA.
“Sails” will continue to be an open platform where networking and collaboration searches between artists, producers, and various stage organizations will take place. This event aims to cover the entire geography of Lithuania, and the new forms are intended for artists and institutions that already see collaboration specifically with LNDT. They will not have to wait for a special event – the online forms can be filled out at any time at this address.

Received applications will be evaluated by the LNDT Art Council twice a year, and decisions will be made on whom to invite to the next stage. The Lithuanian National Drama Theatre plans premieres for the entire current director Martynas Budraitis’s term, i.e., until 2031, so proposals can also be accepted in advance, anticipating their development together with LNDT.
The LNDT Art Council consists of: director Yana Ross (chairperson of the council), director and LNDT troupe leader Augustas Gornatkevičius, Deputy Minister of Culture Tomas Juočys, playwright Mindaugas Nastaravičius, theater scholar Martynas Petrikas, actor and director Gediminas Rimeika, actor and director Vytautas Rumšas, actress Rasa Samuolytė, head of LNDT art management and dramaturgy department Kristė Agota Savė, theater critic Rasa Vasinauskaitė, actress Aistė Zabotkaitė.
“As far as I have seen, no other state theater in Lithuania announces such selections. Young creators often wonder: how can I get into the theater, how to come with an idea, to whom to present it? What are the requirements and deadlines? They write to various theater directors, artistic directors, and often receive no response at all. Non-governmental sector organizations have various ideas but also lack ways and means to propose co-production opportunities.
I believe that the fact that LNDT creates a clear and transparent system for submitting proposals, indicates what the theater’s priorities are, when answers will be given – shows our theater as a democratic open institution,” says Kristė Agota Savė, head of LNDT art management and dramaturgy department and one of the LNDT Art Council members.
