Lithuanians who have been testing the nerves of the European autocross grandmasters in Latvia promise a battle in Vilkyčiai as well

Tomas Zavarskis demonstrated a very solid result in Bauska, racing in the “Buggy 1600” class. The Lithuanian not only made it to the final but also recorded one of the best results by Lithuanian athletes in the European autocross championship in recent years. Fourth place among the strongest European drivers allows us to expect that in the upcoming stage in Vilkyčiai, he can fight for even higher positions.

“I was eighth in the heats, third in the first qualifying, second in the second and third, third or fourth in the B final, but the most important thing is that I made it to the final. Since I found a bit of power to be at least close to the European drivers, everything went quite well. Of course, my buggy still lacks a lot compared to their power. However, I can already be competitive because the third-place winner from last year was behind me, and I kept him. And I was only half a second behind the first place, so I think everything is possible.

Now we are preparing the buggy for Vilkyčiai. It’s a home track where I have had both beautiful victories and big crashes. The important thing is that everything goes smoothly, without stops due to collisions and incidents. If everything goes without such events, the result should be good,” shared Tomas Zavarskis.

Andrius Lugauskas also made it to the final in Latvia. Although the competition with the favorites of the European championship was very tough, the Lithuanian proved that it is possible to fight for high places even against opponents with much more powerful equipment. Now his focus is already on the Vilkyčiai track, where, according to the athlete, not only the equipment but also the driver’s courage will play an important role.

“The most important thing is that we had no technical problems in Bauska. And things went quite well. It is definitely possible to compete with those Europeans. And they are powerful, really powerful. At least according to my buggy, it’s like space. I don’t compare myself with anyone. Of course, there were moments when we had contacts. In the semifinals, everyone was crashing hard. Many red flags. In the final, someone hit me from behind. At first, I thought the fan wire just came loose, but later it turned out that maybe some wheel marks remained on my radiator. The fight was really serious.

Now we are preparing for an even tougher fight in Vilkyčiai. The Bauska track is more technical, Vilkyčiai is faster, where courage and maximum speed are needed. It will be very interesting. I hope the races at the home track will go better, although I am satisfied with my pace anyway.

Before Vilkyčiai, I still need to make some changes to the buggy’s safety roll cage because I received comments from the technical commissioners. LASF president Egidijus Janavičius is helping with this issue. I think we will manage everything and try to fight for the highest places in Vilkyčiai,” said Andrius Lugauskas.
