The 87th LNDT season raises the question of the cyclicality of time and the eternally recurring present – in upcoming performances, the creators’ attention is directed not so much to the signs of the present time, but to the same recurring, restless human being and their contradictions, themes of our nature and fate.

“By presenting the new season, we want to talk more carefully and deeply about time. For this, we chose a symbolic date – the autumn equinox, when time allows light and darkness to share the day equally and we begin to approach a period of reflection,” say the event organizers.
Insights about time will be shared by Doctor of Natural Sciences, ethnologist Prof. Libertas Klimka, historian Associate Prof. Dr. Aurimas Švedas, physicist Dr. Mažena Mackoit-Sinkevičienė, and the creators of upcoming LNDT premieres will also explore the connections between time and their own works – director Kamilė Gudmonaitė, creating a premiere based on Sophocles’ tragedy “Antigone,” director Augustas Gornatkevičius, who will present the play “Big Data” in 2027, Kotryna Siaurusaitytė debuting at LNDT with the work “Fear,” LNDT playwright residency winner and author of the play “Sargas” Kristina Steiblytė, director and choreographer Birutė Banevičiūtė of the new play for babies, and the actresses of the first premiere “Madam Bovary,” Žygimantė Elena Jakštaitė and Neringa Bulotaitė.
They will talk about how the theme of time and its concept unfolds in the upcoming productions. The event will also be attended by LNDT Art Council members Yana Ross and Mindaugas Nastaravičius, as well as LNDT General Director Martynas Budraitis.

“Probably, in recent years, we have been watching more attentively than ever the efforts of sociologists and philosophers to describe what is happening with our time. Five years ago, headlines flashed with fear about the acceleration of technology and the deepening alienation from each other, and today, evaluators of social processes raise questions about why our visions are replaced by fatigue, why towers of loneliness rise in communities built over a long time, how the illusion of security instantly turned into a sense of threat. Sometimes it seems that the present time has thrown us into a constant crisis. It seems that we will no longer see its end – tensions and daily shocks will continue relentlessly and never end.
To be honest – I am somewhat tired of catchy headlines and intriguing slogans, perhaps I no longer see their meaning and value. I believe that in today’s reality, our theater audience feels the same, that demanding and open person who has far more complex questions than straightforward answers. Therefore, I invite you to understand the 87th season – “Above the Present Time” – not as a one-day slogan, but as a daily theme for all of us,” says LNDT General Director Martynas Budraitis about the 87th season.
The event is free. It will take place on September 22 at 5:30 PM in the LNDT foyer. Visitors of this event can purchase hot chocolate at half price at the theater café “Nacionalinė.”
