Pacanas said it – pacanas did it”

“President D. Trump, and this is no great secret, has repeatedly said: ‘Here is our proposal, yes, it is partly a compromise,’ and we accepted it. <…> However, he added that [Ukrainian President Volodymyr] Zelensky would do what he proposed. Well, it didn’t work out,” S. Lavrov noted.

He added that the Russian side’s “conscience” on this issue is allegedly “clean.” “You know, as they say, a ‘pacano’s’ word: pacanas said it – pacanas did it. We said – we are ready. But the other side changed this approach,” assured the Russian Foreign Minister, quoted by “The Moscow Times.”

Explaining the “failure” of D. Trump’s and V. Putin’s agreements, M. Rubio noted that it was not possible to conclude a peace agreement on the agreed terms due to Ukraine’s disagreement with them.

“That is why that attempt failed. So we will have to look for new proposals and new ideas, because that option was certainly not acceptable to Ukraine at the time, and I don’t think it is acceptable to them now,” said the head of the US State Department.

V. Putin and D. Trump met in Alaska on August 15, 2025. Officially, the agreements between the parties were not disclosed. However, the discussion was not about a prepared document, but about a general principle for ending the war. According to a “Reuters” source in Moscow, the Russian and US presidents agreed on the “Anchorage formula,” which envisioned the transfer of the entire Donbas to Russia, as well as the freezing of the front line in other areas.

Before that, V. Putin demanded that the Ukrainian army be withdrawn from the occupied territories of the so-called DNR, LNR, as well as the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions, in order to cease hostilities. V. Zelensky rejected this ultimatum. He later stated that D. Trump’s administration insists that Ukraine hand over the Donetsk region to Russia to end the war. However, according to V. Zelensky, Kyiv cannot do this, as such a step would harm the country’s defensive capabilities.
