“Freedom gains meaning when a person has the opportunity to act and take responsibility – for themselves, their family, community, and state. Alongside freedom “from something,” there is also freedom “for the sake of something.” This concept of freedom is very important to our political identity,” said the party chairman.

The politician emphasized that a strong state must be able to ensure both security and care for its weakest members. L. Kasčiūnas also urged TS-LKD members to engage in more discussions among themselves and seek closer dialogue with the broader public, including those who do not support the political force.
The conservatives’ congress held at the “Litexpo” exhibition and congress center in Vilnius is dedicated to preparing for the local elections.
Direct elections for mayors and municipal councils will take place in the spring of 2027.
The congress will also present the party awards “Lithuanian Oaks,” honoring individuals who have contributed to the independence of the state.
Opposition Liberal Movement leader Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen also attended. Foreign guests included Moldova’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mihai Popsoi, former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, and politicians from Georgia and Estonia.
During the congress, Palanga Mayor Šarūnas Vaitkus was appointed as L. Kasčiūnas’s deputy.
The conservatives are currently the largest opposition party, with 28 representatives in the Seimas.
Data from a “Spinter Research” public opinion poll conducted in July for the news portal “Delfi” showed that the largest share of respondents – 16.2 percent – would vote for the conservatives in the parliamentary elections.
