A statement posted on the singer’s website confirmed that the legendary singer died after an illness. Now the heart-wrenching last known public photo of Bonnie has been released, writes thesun.co.uk
The touching frame captured the star together with performer Molly Roberts at the “O2 Shepherds Bush Empire” hall in West London.
Molly, who said it was an “honor” to perform that same evening, warmed up the show before Bonnie took the stage in the capital on March 19.
The concert at the “Shepherds Bush” hall was supposed to be her penultimate tour night, as Bonnie was also scheduled to perform in Cardiff on March 21, but this show was postponed due to “unforeseen circumstances”.
Bonnie, who was born near Neath, South Wales, was rushed to a hospital in Portugal in April due to a bowel perforation.
After spending several days at Faro hospital, the singer was put into an induced coma and later transferred to the intensive care unit.
Later, on June 15, Bonnie woke from the coma but reportedly suffered a severe infection after surgery.
After some time, a statement about the singer’s death was released.
“Bonnie’s family and team with deepest sorrow announce that Bonnie unexpectedly died last night in a Portuguese hospital due to the illness she was being treated for. A more detailed statement will be provided soon, and now we ask for privacy to cope with this tragedy,” the statement read.
In February, she also appeared on the show “Lorraine”.
The pop star rose to fame in 1977 with her album “The World Starts Tonight”.
However, she achieved worldwide fame in 1983 with her chart-topping anthem “Total Eclipse Of The Heart”.
Later she released four more songs that made the top ten, including “It’s A Heartache” and “Holding Out For A Hero”.
During her five-decade-long career, Bonnie earned three Grammy Award nominations.
The singer, who had been married to real estate developer Robert Sullivan since 1973, represented the United Kingdom in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2013.
She placed 19th in the contest with her song “Believe In Me”.
In 2021, she released her 18th studio album “The Best Is Yet To Come”.
That same year, the 9th decade legend openly spoke about aging and regular Botox injections.
“Darling, for many years I have been getting Botox twice a year. I haven’t had the chance since the Christmas before last. But I’m doing quite well. Thank God, I’m in pretty good shape for my age. And I never intend to retire. I look at Tom Jones. He’s amazing. His voice is as strong as ever – and he’s ten years older than me,” the performer said earlier.
