Knowledge of fifteen-year-olds in Lithuania – higher than two-thirds of the countries participating in the OECD study

As shown by the latest OECD PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment) study, among all participating countries, Lithuania ranks higher than 64 countries in mathematical knowledge, higher than 63 countries in reading skills, higher than 62 countries in science knowledge, and higher than 63 countries in information problem solving, among 91 OECD countries.

“This is one of the most important global instruments that assess students’ knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to successfully participate in society. (…) This study will help further shape education policy in Lithuania,” said Jonas Petkevičius, Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Sports, at the study presentation on Tuesday.

The study analyzed the reading skills, mathematical and scientific literacy of fifteen-year-old students. The main focus of the PISA 2025 study was scientific literacy.

This is the largest PISA study conducted so far – about 700,000 students from 91 countries participated.

In Lithuania, 7.7 thousand students from 295 schools teaching in Lithuanian, Polish, and Russian participated in the PISA study.
