“Klaipėda port is our gateway to the sea, so it is especially important that it is safe and can operate under any circumstances. Today we face various threats – from GPS interference to cyberattacks, so we must continuously strengthen the port’s resilience. I am glad that the port authority itself seeks and implements solutions that help ensure uninterrupted port operations even under the most difficult conditions,” said the Deputy Minister of Transport, acting Minister, Dovilė Sujetaitė.

The port authority’s efforts to strengthen the security of Klaipėda port cover various directions.
“Today, in order to ensure the security of Klaipėda port, which is important for the whole of Lithuania, we cannot separate physical and cyber resilience. Digital systems largely determine the continuity of port operations and the security of the data held by the Port Authority, so in cyberspace we must have security solutions that are no less reliable than in reality. We continuously strengthen cybersecurity at various levels – from employee training to broad-spectrum solutions such as the establishment of a Security Operations Center that constantly monitors cyberspace and blocks threats,” said Algis Latakas, General Director of Klaipėda State Seaport Authority.
This year, the Security Operations Center implemented at the Port Authority acts like the organization’s cyber watch service, continuously monitoring and centrally overseeing the company’s information systems and the processes occurring there, thus creating the possibility to respond promptly to incidents. This service, provided by an external supplier – the company “Telia Lietuva” – significantly strengthens the Port Authority’s resilience, further reduces the risk of attacks, and ensures the security of services and data.

Responding to the changing situation in the region and the world, Klaipėda port authority consistently strengthens not only the physical protection of the port but also seeks to reduce threats in the digital space. Recently, one of the most important safe navigation systems was modernized – the vessel monitoring system used around the clock in the port, which allows real-time viewing of the situation in the water area, coordinating vessel traffic, and ensuring smooth and safe vessel movement. The upgrade included not only software but also hardware system equipment – thus improving the quality of real-time data received and strengthening the system’s security and resilience to cyber threats.
Uninterrupted and smooth operation of Klaipėda port, ensuring the constant functioning of logistics chains, is important for the stability of the entire national economy. Klaipėda port generates about 6% of the gross domestic product, attracts investors, creates jobs, and in case of emergencies would become an important corridor for allied movement for the entire region.
