The Royal Palace in Oslo announced that the king peacefully died on Friday at 6:35 a.m. local time (4:35 a.m. Greenwich Mean Time) at Oslo National Hospital.

Within 24 hours before the king’s death, members of the royal family visited him, and people brought flowers to the palace and laid them to honor the monarch.
Harald was the first king born in Norway since the 14th century. His son Haakon will succeed the throne.
In recent years, the king faced various health issues but actively carried out his royal duties until his last days despite them.
On August 17, the king was hospitalized due to complications arising after treatment for a blood disorder – hemolytic anemia. His condition worsened when an infection developed in his blood.

An impressive and beloved king
During his reign, King Harald made a huge impression on the people of Norway and was very much loved by them. He continued the motto “All for Norway,” cherished by his grandfather King Haakon and his father King Olav, according to Norwegian media. King Harald faithfully represented this motto and the legacy of his predecessors throughout his reign.
The king’s work was characterized by a warm, humane, and caring approach. His father, King Olav, was known as the “People’s King.” Harald brought this legacy into the modern era – modernizing the monarchy and opening more opportunities for communication between the royal palace and the public.
As a result, people could better understand the life and activities of the royal family. The king himself was visible in public life and actively engaged in the issues of his time. He sincerely participated in various events throughout Norway – from the southern regions to the most remote corners of the country – and excellently represented Norway abroad.
He was with the people in good times when Norway celebrated the achievements of the country and its people. But more importantly – he was with them in the hardest moments when Norway faced disasters and tragedies.
