During the VERT inspection, it was found that the seals of unused burners in one of the water heating boilers were arbitrarily removed and the company used it at almost twice the permissible capacity, although in 2022 the capacity was limited at the request of the company itself. It was also recorded that the company operates a new water heating boiler, although its commissioning works were not completed at that time.
„Energy equipment operation requirements are designed to ensure the safe operation of potentially dangerous equipment. Arbitrary changes to technical capabilities or operation of equipment without completing the planned procedures pose a danger to both company employees and the environment, therefore such violations cannot be tolerated,“ says Matas Taparauskas, Deputy Chairman of VERT.
Steam and water heating boilers are classified as potentially dangerous equipment. By not complying with safe operation requirements, the company created a risk to the technical safety of energy equipment, and at the same time to human life, health and the environment.
When imposing the fine, “Kauno energija’s” cooperation in clarifying the circumstances of the violations, efforts to eliminate the identified violations, and the fact that no real harm was done to consumers were taken into account.

“Kauno energija” must pay the fine within 30 calendar days from the date of entry into force of the VERT decision.
VERT emphasizes that the requirements for the operation of energy equipment are applied to ensure their safe operation, and at the same time reliable service delivery to consumers.
