This year, young residents of Kaunas once again confirmed their status as national leaders, earning a total of 315 top scores – 248 state maturity exams and 67 International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme perfect scores.

For successfully completing the secondary education program and achieving high state maturity exam results, 146 graduates were awarded letters of appreciation from the mayor. For excellent results in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, another 36 graduates received mayoral thanks. In total, 72 Kaunas city teachers prepared these students for the exams.

“I wish the graduates never to forget their homes and to remember that you are Kaunas residents, Lithuanians. All the changes and works you see in Kaunas are because of you and the future. Of course, we also thank the teachers, because without your patience, dedication, and daily work, Kaunas would not lead in education. We thank the parents for raising such talented children,” greeted the gathered city mayor Visvaldas Matijošaitis.

As many as 26 students earned three or more perfect scores. Among them, three scored six each, two – five each, four – four each, and seventeen – three top scores each. For such achievements, the youth are awarded the “Top Scorer Bonus.” Each perfect score converts into a 100 euro cash gift. The largest amount paid was 600 euros. In total, 9.5 thousand euros were allocated to the students.

As commemorative gifts, symbolic souvenirs were also presented. Bow ties were given to the boys, scarves with motifs from M.K. Čiurlionis’s works to the girls.

The Most Perfect Scores – in the English Exam

The most perfect scores in both state maturity exams and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme were traditionally received in English – 87. Among the state maturity exams, students earned the most maximum scores in informatics – 64, Lithuanian language and literature – 60, mathematics (A) – 54. Excellent results were also achieved in geography, history, chemistry, physics, economics, and biology exams.

The largest harvest of perfect scores belongs to graduates of Kaunas University of Technology Gymnasium, who earned 99 top scores. Students of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences Gymnasium collected 39 perfect scores, Kaunas “Saulė” Gymnasium – 30, Kaunas Jesuit Gymnasium – 26, KTU Engineering Lyceum – 11.

“On behalf of all top scorers, I would like to thank the mayor of Kaunas and his team for the attention shown, the organized celebration, and the gifts. Of course, we would not be here without our teachers and parents, who encouraged us for many years to move forward, prepared us, and provided opportunities to achieve the highest results,” said KTU Gymnasium graduate Sima Miliūnaitė in her words of thanks.

VDU “Rasa” Gymnasium counts 8 perfect scores in its portfolio, Kaunas Jonas Jablonskis Gymnasium – 6, Kaunas “Vyturys” and Kaunas John Paul II Gymnasiums each have 5, Kaunas Maironis University and President Valdas Adamkus Gymnasiums each have 3.

Bonuses – also for Teachers

Excellent student results are inseparable from the work of professional and dedicated teachers. Since last year, the “Top Scorer Bonus” has been awarded to teachers who prepared three or more students with the highest achievements. This year, 38 teachers were rewarded, with a total amount of 10.7 thousand euros. The largest bonus awarded to a teacher was 500 euros.

The English teacher Vitalija Miškinienė of Kaunas Jesuit Gymnasium prepared the most graduates with top scores – 25. Informatics teacher Kristina Serapinaitė of Kaunas University of Technology Gymnasium trained 18 top scorers, English teacher Kristina Gimpelson of Kaunas Jonas Jablonskis Gymnasium – 17.

Significant results were also achieved by Kaunas University of Technology Gymnasium informatics teacher Kęstutis Simonavičius (15 top scorers), mathematics teacher Alvydas Beinakaraitis (14), Kaunas “Saulė” Gymnasium and Kaunas University of Technology Engineering Lyceum informatics teacher Ramūnas Liuokaitis (10), Kaunas Jesuit Gymnasium deputy director and informatics teacher Virgilijus Saulius (8), and Kaunas Eruditas Lyceum English teacher Deividas Marušauskas (7).
