Kaunas Aleksotas awaits big changes: it has been revealed what will be built here

Significant investments

By strategically expanding the service network closer to the homes of Kaunas residents, we invest not only in kindergartens, schools, or healthcare institutions – we are simultaneously building sports infrastructure facilities. Aleksotas is no exception. Seeing great potential, we are starting the construction of four sports complexes – we will create spaces for swimmers, rugby players, basketball players, football players, and more.

The new infrastructure will be available to professionals and active leisure enthusiasts. This is especially important for our younger generation. More sports facilities mean more opportunities to play sports and improve in the desired field,” says Kaunas Mayor Visvaldas Matijošaitis.

Recently, Aleksotas has been experiencing an increasing breakthrough. A few years ago, the ALEX Kaunas Innovation Park was officially opened, attracting tens of millions in investments and having the status of an economically important object for the state.

At the same time, transportation is being considered – a pedestrian and cyclist bridge is being built between Nemunas Island and Žemoji Freda. This will be the first connection of this type on the left bank. The renovation of H. and O. Minkovskių streets is nearing completion.

Nearby, the construction of the M.K. Čiurlionis Concert Center is also gaining momentum.

Football and rugby arena

In the near future, Aleksotas will be able to offer even more to sports professionals and amateurs. At Europos pr. 105A, the construction of an indoor football and rugby arena is beginning.

At this location, there will be an artificial turf field suitable for official matches, a thousand seats in the stands, and a roof terrace with a scenic view of the Aleksotas aerodrome.

In the 28 m high, A++ energy class, three-story building, all necessary rooms for athletes and staff will also fit.

Extreme sports center

This fall, work will start on the plot at S. Dariaus and S. Girėno St. 29A – here a place is planned for an extreme sports center with indoor and outdoor spaces: for skateboarding, rollerblading, BMX biking, and scooter sports.

The 4,000 sq. m complex will be the largest in the Baltic States, suitable for both beginners and professionals.

Indoors, a foam pit, rubber ramps, and trampolines are planned. A separate high-altitude climbing sports sector with an 18-meter-high climbing wall and an obstacle course racing (OCR) track are also planned. Outside – a bike track and other elements accessible to Kaunas residents.

Outdoor sports fields

The changes in Aleksotas do not end there – at Veiverių St. 132, a universal outdoor sports field is planned. A tender for the installation of leisure and sports infrastructure will be announced soon.

The project covers nearly 3.5 hectares, where multifunctional spaces for football, basketball, beach volleyball, tennis, and padel are planned.

The area will also include playgrounds for children, outdoor exercise equipment areas, and stands.

The first artificial wave in Kaunas

This fall, a tender will be announced for the construction of a sports base at Technikumo St. 3 – here there will be a pool with an artificial wave, sand, and hard surface zones.

The complex will feature a 50-meter-long pool with 10 swimming lanes, as well as a SPA area of about 5,000 sq. m, an 8-court sand area, and hard surface courts for football, basketball, and handball.

The facility will be unique due to the planned surfing room with an artificial wave in the water zone.
