The experience of the war in Ukraine shows that the mass use of drones significantly complicates the course of operations, and traditional digging of trenches, trenches, or battle positions becomes extremely risky. The use of the “GCS200” demining system allows this to be done without risking soldiers’ lives, as operators control the system from a safe cover, about half a kilometer away from the task location.

The “GCS200″ remote demining system is characterized not only by good cross-country ability, resistance to damage, and integrated state-of-the-art equipment, but also has various interchangeable attachments, such as a bulldozer blade, loader, etc. By attaching a special excavator attachment, the machine transforms into an excavator and can efficiently perform digging work remotely,” says senior lieutenant Mindaugas Grigonis, who led the exercises, about the broader than usual possibilities of using the demining system.

According to him, working with this system is very similar to working with a standard excavator, only the control is done via a remote control panel. The operator sees the image from the demining machine’s cameras in real time, and after understanding the machine’s dimensions and practicing, the digging work proceeds quickly and efficiently. A drone is additionally used for reconnaissance and protection, helping soldiers see the situation from the air and respond promptly.
Exercises of this kind were held in the battalion for the first time. And the successful use of the available engineering equipment opens new prospects for the development of engineering capabilities. In the future, after minimal improvements, a similar remote control principle could be applied to other machines, further expanding the range of safely executed engineering tasks.
