This is what K. Kallas said to US negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner during their weekend visits to Moscow and Kyiv.

“I am glad that the special envoy visited Kyiv for the first time. For Ukrainians, this meant three days without civilian bombings. So I think this is a positive aspect of this visit,” she said.

Over the weekend, S. Witkoff and J. Kushner met with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky, renewing efforts to end the fighting.

During the one-and-a-half-year-long war, tens of thousands of soldiers and civilians have died.

Negotiations remain at an impasse over the eastern Ukrainian Donbas region – which Russia does not fully control but demands to be part of any peace agreement.
