Jaw-dropping numbers: how much do professional CS2 players really earn?

Professional teams have coaches, analysts, and other specialists, and players sign long-term contracts. The biggest tournaments attract huge audiences and offer million-dollar prize pools, so at the highest level, esports has long become a full-fledged profession.

A professional CS2 player can earn from a few thousand to more than 80 thousand euros per month. However, the financial gap between the biggest stars and lower-level professionals is huge, writes the portal “esportas.lt”.

Players of the best world organizations receive five-figure salaries, share tournament prizes, and earn from “Major” stickers, advertising, and other activities. Meanwhile, representatives of smaller regional teams do not always have esports guaranteeing even a stable monthly salary.

It is difficult to accurately assess professionals’ incomes also because players’ contracts are usually confidential. Publicly visible tournament prizes also do not reveal the whole picture – money is distributed to teams, and then to players, coaches, and sometimes organizations.

Elite players – tens of thousands per month

According to former professional player and coach Wiktor “TaZ” Wojtas, this year high-level “Counter-Strike 2” professionals receive about up to 34 thousand euros per month. However, the salaries of the brightest stars can approach even 86 thousand euros, but only a few players receive such money.

Huge differences are also revealed by evaluations published by “Pley.gg” at the beginning of the year. Based on more than 20 esports industry sources, “Team Falcons” could have spent 208,000–225,300 euros per month on salaries for five main roster players.

“Team Vitality”‘s five-player budget was estimated at 182,000–199,300 euros, “Team Liquid” – 125,700–143,000 euros, and “FaZe Clan” – 117,000–134,300 euros.

The much smaller “The MongolZ” budget – 34,700–43,300 euros for the entire five. Dividing this amount simply, one player would get about 6,900–8,700 euros, although the real salary distribution may be completely different.

Professionals have also spoken about their salaries. Kristian “k0nfig” Wienecke said he earned about 26,000 euros per month at “Complexity Gaming”, and later about 23,400 euros at “Astralis”. Martin “STYKO” Stykas stated that in 2024 “Apeks” paid him about 11,200 euros per month.

The situation is completely different at the lower professional scene level. There, salaries may be only a few thousand euros, and some organizations offer only expense compensation or a share of the money won in tournaments.

Salary – only part of the income

The income of the strongest “Counter-Strike 2” players does not end with a monthly salary. Bonuses, tournament prizes, “Major” sticker sales, sponsorship contracts, live broadcasts, and other created content can contribute to it.

By mid-September 2026, about 49.7 million euros had been distributed in “Counter-Strike 2” tournaments, according to “Esports Earnings” data. However, the total prize pool is not equal to the amount that goes to players.

For example, the total prize and club payout fund for the 2025 “IEM Cologne” was about 1.08 million euros, but about 346,700 euros was allocated to the winning players. Dividing this amount among five main roster members, each would get about 69,300 euros before taxes.

An important source of income is also “Major” stickers. During the 2026 Cologne “Major”, “Valve” stated that 50% of the “Major” store and viewer pass revenues would be paid to the tournament organizer, teams, and players. The exact distribution also depends on specific contracts.

The highest salaries – only for a few

In the public space, we usually see the best-paid professionals, but they do not reflect the entire “Counter-Strike 2” scene. Salary depends on results, experience, role in the team, reputation, and the player’s bargaining position.

Income can vary greatly from year to year. “STYKO” has stated that in 2024 he earned about 154 thousand euros, although the year before his income was about 461,000 euros. Such a difference can be caused by results, qualification for the “Major”, sticker sales, and contract terms.

Thus, top-level “Counter-Strike 2” professionals can earn tens of thousands of euros per month, and the biggest stars even more. However, outside elite teams, salaries drop sharply, so million-euro incomes in the professional CS2 world are the exception, not the rule.
