Baniutė Mašiotaitė-Kronienė was born in 1930 in Kaunas to the family of the famous educator, author of mathematics textbooks Jonas and Veronika Mašiotai: her father taught mathematics at the “Aušra” gymnasium, and her mother worked at a bank.

In a 2016 interview with 15min, she said that the wonderful summers of her childhood passed at the homestead called “Mašiotynė,” where her mother, a city child, grew vegetables and berries, where her grandfather Pranas Mašiotas rested, and where she herself liked to fish in the Nemunas River.
In 1944, as the Soviets approached, she and her family retreated to Germany. At first, they lived in refugee camps in Regensburg and later in Scheinfeld. In 1948, she moved to the USA.
B. Mašiotaitė-Kronienė belonged to the Lithuanian Scouts Union since 1935 and was a member of the Lithuanian Daughters Society. For 17 years in Chicago, she worked as the administrator and proofreader of the magazine “Pasaulio lietuvis” and for 4 years as the secretary of the Lithuanian Community board.

Since 1961, she was a member of the Lithuanian community in Lemont. She organized the first Fashion Exhibition and later helped B. Nainienė’s women’s club to hold various events at the World Lithuanian Center in Lemont. For six years, she was a member of the J. Matulaitis mission board.
After Lithuania regained independence, together with other emigrants in Chicago, she founded the charity organization “Saulutė,” which cares for Lithuanian orphans.
In 2005, she donated her parents’ former home in Kačerginė to the Pranas and Jonas Mašiotai Cultural Society.
