On Monday, J. Coale visited Lithuania, where he met with the country’s Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys.
According to the statement from the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the minister thanked the US president and administration for consistent efforts to secure the release of Belarusian political prisoners, but noted that Belarus remains closely integrated into Russia’s military and security architecture, continues to support Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, and contributes to military pressure on the West.
The meeting in Lithuania also discussed the challenges posed by illegal migration from Belarus.

As reported by “Zerkalo,” J. Coale’s visits this week aim at the release of another group of prisoners, which could number several hundred people.
BNS wrote that the last time J. Coale visited Minsk was in March. At that time, Belarus released 250 political prisoners. After that visit, the special envoy urged Lithuania to restore the transit of Belarusian fertilizers and to hold a high-level meeting with Minsk.
