As announced by the Presidency, G. Nausėda in Madeira “will work remotely and will be constantly informed about the most important events in the country”.
Who paid for the visit?
15min contacted the Presidency with questions about who paid for G. Nausėda’s visit to the exotic corner of the world.
It turned out that the head of state will cover all travel expenses out of his own pocket.
“The president pays for the entire trip from personal funds,” 15min was informed on Tuesday by the president’s press representative Ridas Jasiulionis.
Officially, neither the president nor members of the Seimas have vacations, unlike members of the Cabinet of Ministers.
However, parliamentarians usually travel to warm places or other locations between plenary sessions, and previous Lithuanian presidents sometimes found time for rest abroad or in Lithuanian resorts.

“Our guys are nearby”
However, officers of the Leadership Protection Service are always with the president.
“That our guys are nearby is a fact,” 15min said the head of the service Rymantas Mockevičius.
For the bodyguards under his command, the trip to Madeira is a usual work assignment.
“According to the law, it belongs to us – we work 24 hours a day. Wherever the president goes, we go too (…) For them, it is a business trip, it is the same as going to Brussels or somewhere else (…) For security, there is no difference – whether work or vacation, we are always nearby,” said the head of the service.

According to him, the bodyguards’ stay in Madeira was paid for from the service’s funds.
