Is it worth installing a solar power plant if ESO only allows 1 kW to be fed into the grid? Real one-year experience

We share the real experience of VEESLA sales manager. He used a 10 kW solar power plant with a 1 kW ESO grid connection condition for more than a year, and only after a year installed an energy storage system.

One year without an energy storage system

In June 2025, the following was installed:

  • 10 kW solar power plant;
  • hybrid inverter;
  • 1 kW ESO grid connection condition;
  • energy storage system was not installed.

During the first year, the power plant generated about 4,100 kWh of electricity and allowed savings of approximately 1,000 Eur per year, even without an energy storage system. The data presented is based on real one-year usage results, not theoretical calculations or laboratory tests.

What changed after installing the energy storage system?

A year later, an energy storage system was connected to the same system. Already in the first month, it became clear that the energy storage system allows for significantly more efficient use of the energy generated by the solar power plant.

Before installing the storage system, the power plant generated about 20 kWh of electricity on most days. After installing the storage system, the amount of electricity effectively used daily increased to approximately 40 kWh.

In the graph, we see the black color – solar power plant production without a storage system.

Brown color – solar power plant’s double electricity production with a storage system.

This change was not due to the modules starting to produce more electricity, but because the energy no longer lost its value. Part of it was stored in the battery and used later when it was most needed.

What does this mean annually?

If we calculate the six most productive months of the solar power plant’s operation, the energy storage system would allow an additional use of about 2,700 kWh of electricity, which amounts to about 675 Eur in additional financial benefit.

Since the storage system also creates some benefit in the remaining months of the year, the real annual effect could be even greater.

What does this example show?

This one-year practice allows for two important conclusions.

1. A solar power plant pays off even without an energy storage system

Even with a 1 kW ESO limitation, you can save about 1,000 Eur per year. Therefore, installing a solar power plant is definitely worth it, even if there is no immediate possibility to purchase a storage system today.

2. An energy storage system allows exploiting the full potential of the system

After installing the storage system, a larger portion of the generated electricity is used for self-consumption. This further reduces electricity purchases from the grid and increases the overall return on investment. In this example, the total annual financial benefit can increase from approximately 1,000 Eur to about 1,700 Eur per year.

What does VEESLA recommend?

If you are planning to install a solar power plant and are subject to a 1 kW electricity grid connection limitation, the optimal solution is a system with an energy storage system.

However, if you are not planning to purchase an energy storage system at the moment, this is not a reason to postpone the entire project. As real one-year experience shows, a properly designed solar power plant pays off even without a storage system, and it can always be connected to the system later.

How much could your home save?

Since each object is different, the benefits created by a solar power plant depend on electricity consumption, roof orientation, system power, and other factors.

VEESLA specialists will assess your situation and calculate how much your home could save – both by installing only a solar power plant and by choosing a system with an energy storage system.
