“I clearly state: if the United States returns to its commitments under the mentioned memorandum of understanding, the Islamic Republic of Iran will immediately take appropriate actions,” said M. Pezeshkian, according to the Iranian presidency website.
The memorandum aimed to end the hostilities between Tehran and Washington that began in late February after US and Israeli attacks against Iran, during which the former supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei (Ali Chamenei) was killed.
The agreement, which was supposed to prepare the ground for final peace negotiations, later collapsed, with both sides accusing each other of violating its terms.
The Strait of Hormuz remains a key point of contention between Iran and the US. After more than a month of relative calm, the countries resumed fire on Monday.
Tehran claims to continue blocking the strategic waterway but says it will return to its commitments under the June agreement, including the opening of Hormuz, if the United States does the same.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also called on the US on Monday to “return to its commitments and what their president signed.”
“In that case, everything can be put back on the right track,” he said.
China and Russia relations
V. Putin met with Chinese leader Xi Jinping on Monday at the SCO summit, which also includes leaders from Turkey, India, and Pakistan.

The summit takes place four and a half years after the start of Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine and six months after the start of the war between Washington and Tehran.
Xi Jinping said that Russia and China’s ties have become stronger and that their “prospects will be even brighter,” while V. Putin stated that cooperation is “successfully developing on all fronts.”
Since the start of the large-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Russian economy has become increasingly dependent on China, and Moscow has also significantly deepened military and economic ties with Iran.
However, US President Donald Trump warned Moscow and Beijing against sending weapons to Iran.
The SCO historically focused mainly on economic issues, but in recent years, under the leadership of Moscow and Beijing, it has become more influential.
Besides 10 members, it now has 15 “dialogue partners,” including Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar, and two observer countries – Afghanistan and Mongolia.
