On September 5th in Birmingham, R. Flores participated in the “Giants Live” World Deadlift Championship, with a goal that until recently seemed achievable only by the most famous names in strength sports. His target was the 510 kg record set by Hafthor Bjornsson a year earlier in the same arena.

A margin of just one kilogram allowed him to break H. Bjornsson’s world record and become the new record holder in the deadlift discipline.

On August 25th, R. Flores lifted 504.04 kilograms in training. This was already more than half a ton, but the result was not official.

“Giants Live” had previously named the Mexican as one of the few athletes capable of challenging H. Bjornsson. R. Flores had also performed three repetitions with a 470-kilogram barbell during training.

Eddie Hall became the first person in 2016 to lift a 500-kilogram barbell in the deadlift event at strength competitions.
