As reported by the news portal “RaiNews.it”, huge forces were deployed to search for the missing woman. For four days, divers, firefighters, helicopters, various boats, and the Italian Carabinieri tirelessly scoured the lagoon, and even a special boat with sonar from Padua came to assist. It is said that the accident site is a stretch of waterway leading to the airport, where navigation can be very fast.

Despite the intensive efforts of the services, a breakthrough in the search occurred only on the morning of September 15. According to reports, a local resident noticed a body in the waters of the Campalto district and immediately called for help. The tragic end of the search was later announced by the mayor of Venice, Simone Venturini: “A tragic story that has kept our entire city in suspense for the past few days ended in the most painful way,” he wrote on social media.
Unfortunately, this was not the only blow to this family. Gabriella’s 25-year-old husband, Sean Michieli, was also seriously injured in the accident. After the collision, he was urgently taken to the Angelo hospital in Mestre. Although doctors performed a complex operation in intensive care, trying to control the severe head injury, their efforts were in vain – the medical commission ultimately declared the young man brain dead.

The Venice prosecutor’s office has already launched an investigation into negligent homicide in water transport. The water taxi driver is at the center of the investigation. The man who was unharmed in the accident is currently undergoing the usual sobriety and other tests in such cases. Now the officers face a difficult task – to reconstruct the exact course of the accident, determine the movement trajectories of both vessels, the circumstances of the collision, and responsibility for this tragedy.

The most painful detail of this story is that Sean and Gabriella got married just three months ago. The young man, from a fishing family on the island of Burano, continued the family tradition and worked as a fisherman. His wife often accompanied him to the lagoon, so on that fateful morning, as usual, they set out at dawn.
The Michieli family’s connection to the lagoon and fishing is very deep, but the waters have already brought sorrow to this family once. In 2007, Sean’s uncle, Endrius Michieli, who was only 19 years old, died in a boat accident.
