In the second half of the match, the champions dominated again and, with 10 minutes remaining, had a 28-point lead – 63:35. Nothing significant happened in the remaining time.
For the Lithuanian team, the most points were scored by Kajai – Šimanauskas – 19, Jodkonis – 7.
According to coach R. Rakutis, the guys couldn’t control their excitement – they forgot everything they had prepared.
“At times it seemed like students were playing against a school team. We played better in the second quarter. However, the failure was due to not sticking to the game plan – we needed to stop the opponents’ fast breaks and not let them get into their rhythm. We need to learn lessons from these matches and prepare for the next ones,” the strategist said.
On Saturday (11 AM Lithuanian time), the Lithuanians will meet the Italians, and on Sunday, in the last Group B match, they will face the Kenyan national team.
On June 9, the quarter-final battles will take place, after which it will become clear whether the Lithuanians will retain hopes of winning medals.
