The incident occurred in the Panevėžys district, when leaving the city towards Šiauliai. The vehicles collided under the so-called Šiauliai viaduct.

Three passenger cars, an Audi, a Peugeot, and a Dacia, collided during the accident. The latter overturned onto its roof. A Mercedes cargo van was also involved in the accident.
It was soon clarified that a fifth car was also hit in the mass accident.
The vehicle belonging to the security service “EuroCash1” overturned and remained lying on its roof.

After the accident, medical assistance was needed for several participants. According to Panevėžys police spokeswoman Odeta Jukniūtė, preliminary data indicates that at least four people were injured in the accident. According to some data, the number of injured may reach 5.
Police officers and firefighters worked at the accident site.
The reasons for the accident and which road user was at fault are being investigated by the authorities.
The road at the scene was completely blocked, and drivers were temporarily redirected to other viaduct routes.
