The city known as the summer capital attracts a large number of vacationers from all over Lithuania during the warm season, which significantly increases the demand for transport and electric vehicle charging infrastructure. The new stations will provide more opportunities to charge cars for both Palanga residents and visitors to the resort.
More charging options in the summer capital
According to Tomas Tamašauskas, head of “Eldrive Lithuania,” Palanga is a strategically important location for expanding the electric vehicle charging network because driver demand increases significantly during the season.
“Palanga is Lithuania’s summer capital, where people from all over the country flock during the warm season. Naturally, the demand for electric vehicle charging also rises. We want visitors to the seaside to feel confident and know that they can conveniently and quickly charge their car right in the city. The new location near ‘Rimi’ offers more choices and allows electric vehicle charging to be combined with daily errands,” says T. Tamašauskas.
The new location features two 200 kW power stations designed for fast electric vehicle charging. Depending on the car model, battery capacity, temperature, and supported charging power, many modern electric vehicle batteries can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in about 20–30 minutes.
This means drivers can charge their cars while shopping or making a short stop in the city without planning a separate trip for charging. The convenient location near one of Palanga’s daily attractions will be relevant for both permanent city residents and resort guests.
“High-power stations are especially important where people and traffic flows can increase sharply in a short time. In summer, drivers in Palanga want to spend time relaxing, not waiting long for their car to charge. Therefore, our goal is to offer a fast, convenient, and easily accessible service where people already visit. While the car is charging, the driver can shop and then continue the journey after a short break,” says T. Tamašauskas.
Electric vehicles increasingly chosen for trips to the seaside
The number of electric vehicles on Lithuanian roads is rapidly growing. As of July 1, 2026, there were 55,884 registered M1 and N1 category rechargeable vehicles in the country: 29,090 pure electric vehicles and 26,794 plug-in hybrids. Electric vehicles are increasingly used not only for daily city trips but also for traveling between different Lithuanian regions, to resorts, or abroad.

Changing travel habits are also reflected in “Eldrive” network data. Evaluating the number of charging sessions on the A1 highway, at the “Eldrive Porsche Charging Hub” parks near Raseiniai and Rietavas, it is evident that during the summer season, the flow of electric vehicles towards Palanga and other seaside resorts has nearly doubled. This confirms that electric vehicles are becoming a full-fledged means of transport for longer trips, and the seaside direction is one of the most important for further developing charging infrastructure.
“A few years ago, electric vehicles were mostly associated with daily city trips. Now we see a completely different picture – people confidently travel by electric vehicles from Vilnius, Kaunas, or other cities to the seaside, plan holiday routes, and consider charging a natural part of the journey. The nearly doubled number of charges in our parks on the main route to the seaside is a clear signal that infrastructure must grow alongside driver needs,” says T. Tamašauskas.
According to him, charging options are important not only on the way to the seaside but also at the travel destination itself. It should be convenient for the driver to charge the car near a store, hotel, entertainment, or other visited places. This allows charging to be naturally integrated into daily plans and avoids a separate stop just for charging the car.
Partnership expands the charging network across Lithuania
The new charging location in Palanga continues the “Eldrive” and “Rimi” partnership started in early 2023. Through this partnership, charging infrastructure is consistently expanded near retail locations in various Lithuanian cities and regions. The Palanga location is already the 19th near “Rimi” stores where drivers can use “Eldrive” charging services.
Such charging locations allow efficient use of time, as the car can be charged while shopping or engaging in other daily activities. This is especially relevant in resort cities where driver flows increase significantly during the season.
“Our goal is for electric vehicle drivers not to have to worry about whether there will be a place to charge. The location opened in Palanga will help serve growing summer traffic, provide more convenience to local residents, and further strengthen charging infrastructure at the seaside. We want traveling by electric vehicle to the sea to be as simple and natural as any other trip,” summarizes T. Tamašauskas.
The new “Eldrive” stations near “Rimi Palanga,” Malūno St. 10, are already operational and open to all electric vehicle drivers. Information about their availability, charging power, and pricing can be found in the “Eldrive” mobile app.
