“With the opening of the new section of the Southeastern bypass, drivers coming from Vilnius will be able to continue their journey towards Marijampolė more conveniently. At the same time, city residents will have much more convenient access to Palemonas and Petrašiūnai,” said Mayor Visvaldas Matijošaitis in the announcement.

According to the municipality, those arriving via the hydroelectric power plant road towards Pažaislis Monastery will be able to drive straight on the new bypass or descend via the viaduct and continue towards T. Masiulis Street.

Additionally, one-way traffic will be introduced on the branch of T. Masiulis Street leading to the hydroelectric power plant.

The completion of the first stage of the Southeastern bypass construction consists of three sections. In May 2024, a one and a half kilometer section with new viaducts, roundabouts, pedestrian and bicycle paths was opened near the Amalia crossing.

The 11-kilometer bypass leading from Palemonas to T. Masiulis Streets will connect the A1 highway with the “Via Baltica” route towards Warsaw.
