According to the current procedure, pension recipients living abroad must confirm every year from October 1 to December 31 that they are alive and residing in a certain foreign country. This obligation applies to recipients of social insurance old-age, early old-age, disability, widow’s and orphan’s pensions, as well as recipients of state pensions for victims and I and II degree state pensions.
It is important to know that people who leave Lithuania to live abroad in October–December of this year will not need to submit additional documents this year. Pension payments will continue, and they will have to submit proof of life and residence for the first time next year.
Registration is done by phone
To use the remote identity verification service, you must first register. This can be done by calling the “Sodra” information center at +370 5 250 0883 and selecting the topic “Pensions and social benefits”.
During registration, the client’s identity is verified by the client identification code (KID), registered phone number, or personal code. The KID code can be found by logging into the personal “Sodra” account or obtained at any “Sodra” customer service office.
It is also necessary to have a valid email address. A login link, conversation instructions, information about required documents, and reminders will be sent to it.
What documents will need to be shown?
During the video call, social insurance pension recipients must present a valid identity document and a document confirming residence in a foreign country. This can be a passport, identity card, driver’s license, or residence certificate of that country.
If a residence certificate is submitted, it must be issued no earlier than October 1 of the current year. Such a certificate can be issued by the local pension administration institution, municipality, or another state institution.
Recipients of state pensions for victims and I and II degree state pensions only need to show a valid identity document.

No additional actions required after the call
The person who joins the video call at the scheduled time will have to answer several questions necessary for identity verification and show the documents. After successfully completing the procedure, a confirmation will be sent by email.
All necessary documents and certificates will be completed and registered by a “Sodra” employee after the call. If the submitted documents meet the requirements, pension payments will be extended until December 31 of the following year.
If, due to technical reasons, such as internet connection issues, identity verification fails, the person will be offered other methods or given the opportunity to register for another video call.
Documents can also be submitted by other means
Video calls online are the most convenient and fastest way to confirm that a person is alive and in a certain place. However, this can also be done by other means – from October 1 to December 31 by visiting one of the “Sodra” customer service offices or sending documents by mail.
The document must be certified by a notary, an official of the Lithuanian consular representation, or an employee of the competent authority of that country (the equivalent of “Sodra”).
If documents were issued in foreign countries where the provisions of international treaties of the Republic of Lithuania or the European Union social security coordination regulations regarding pension payments do not apply, they must be translated into Lithuanian and certified with an apostille. Such certification is required to ensure that a document issued abroad is valid in Lithuania.
